Concrete Moisture Testing

Levels of humidity can negatively affect our homes. Even though we live on Long Island, humidity testing is necessary for keeping our homes and businesses safe environments. Commercial companies should always be up-to-date on moisture testing within their facilities to ensure safety for everyone in their establishments. Advanced Moisture Testing is a Long Island company that can make sure your company is safe for both you and your employees alike. Too much moisture in the floor can cause a number of hazards such as adhesive breakdown, mold & mildew, and popups and slab curling. Making sure your floors are properly tested can ensure your safety, save you money, and are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Call Advanced MOisture Testing to make sure your floors are safe.

Mold is a silent contaminant that is harmful to those that are exposed to it. It grows and spreads in moist, damp locations. Mold can be found on both the inside and outside of your home. Keeping your home from being at risk of avoiding the development of mold is all in the levels of moisture. Keeping on top of moisture in and around your home will help prevent any costly damage in the future.

Checking your concrete

Although concrete is a very strong material, humidity and moisture can affect its compaction. The more moisture and humidity are in contact with concrete, the less it retains strength and durability. Concrete moisture testing is essential in keeping commercial properties as safe as possible. Usually, if you’re having a concrete floor installed, having the base tested for humidity is highly necessary and safe.

There are two different ways to test the moisture of a concrete floor:

The calcium chloride test, and the standard test method. Although the calcium chloride test is not normally honored by many warranties because it only tests the vapor emissions that come to the surface, not what’s below.

The standard method for determining the humidity in a concrete slab is widely accepted because it is a much more accurate measurement of the humidity within the floor, instead of on the surface. To test the humidity within the floor, the hole has to be drilled into the slab. Probes are placed in the holes and left for about 72 hours for an accurate reading.

Looks can be deceiving

Believe it or not, concrete is permeable. It is still susceptible to trapping moisture which can make it a prime breeding ground for mold to flourish. If concrete is not properly dried, ground moisture can move upwards in the form of a vapor and cause damage to the floor below the surface. If there is any flooring that lays on top of the concrete, that can essentially damage the new flooring that has been laid on top. Monitoring the moisture levels of the concrete before laying the new flooring on top is a way to not only save a lot of time and money, it can keep a potentially harmful substance from forming and spreading. Although it takes a couple of days to make sure the concrete floors are safe, it is a small price to pay when ensuring the overall safety of your floors.

Be mindful of cracks in your floors. They invite moisture to seep in and potentially damage the floors, which can once again, cause costly damage to your floors.

Concrete can be very deceiving when it’s drying. The top of a concrete slab may be dry, but below that, it may not be. Concrete moisture testing is a big step in ensuring there will be no damage due to moisture in your floors. Testing the levels of dryness or humidity in your concrete slabs can save you thousands of dollars in damage, and keep the health of your floors in top shape.

Advanced Moisture Testing serves the Long Island area with reliable moisture tests for commercial, industrial, and retail buildings.

Long Island moisture testing is an incredibly important procedure when installing a new floor covering over concrete.  If there’s too much moisture under a floor covering, it can pop, accumulate mold, or cause the adhesive to come off. Our Long Island moisture testing company recommends having a test done before the flooring is installed to properly measure how much moisture is within the concrete, so the most suitable adhesive or floor covering can be used. We service Metro Area,  Long Island, Including: Bronx, Brooklyn,Queens, Manhattan, Huntington Station, Dix Hills , Massapequa, North Massapequa, and Mastic
